Step and Repeat Banners

A step and repeat banner is a branded backdrop printed with a repeating pattern of logos. It's used behind people at events so the branding appears in every photo. Also known as a logo backdrop, press wall or media wall, it's the display you often see on red carpets, at press conferences and behind interview areas, putting your brand and any sponsors in shot whenever a picture is taken.

The name refers to the repeating pattern of logos across the backdrop. Logos typically run in horizontal rows, repeating the same mark or alternating between several logos at regular intervals.

Each row is usually offset to create a staggered effect, although layouts can be customised with logos aligned vertically as well as horizontally. The final arrangement depends on the size and shape of the logos you provide.

Step and repeat banners are typically used as photo backdrops at events ranging from press conferences to major trade shows.

You'll often see them on red carpets, at media briefings and behind interview areas at sporting venues. They can also be used for milestone birthday celebrations, weddings and other special events.

Depending on the product, your step and repeat backdrop will be printed onto either fabric or PVC graphics.

Both options provide a professional, photo-ready finish. The right choice depends on how you'll use your backdrop:

• Fabric: Fabric backdrops use a seamless, tensioned graphic with no glare, helping them photograph beautifully under flash and event lighting. They're lightweight, machine washable and ideal if the backdrop will be reused regularly.
• PVC: PVC graphics are hard-wearing and wipe-clean, making them a robust and cost-effective choice for frequent handling or when you prefer a more rigid finish.

If you're designing your own logo backdrop, follow these steps:

1. Alignment: Make sure all logos are aligned evenly, both horizontally and vertically.
2. Spacing: Give your logos plenty of space, or padding, around the edges. Avoid overcrowding the backdrop with too many logos.
3. Colour combinations: If you're using multiple logos, choose colours that complement each other. Greyscale logos can work well if there are too many competing colours.

Before sending your artwork, please follow these guidelines to help ensure a high-quality print:

• File format: Supply your artwork as a PDF.
• Size: Match your artwork to the banner size or use an equivalent ratio, such as 2:1. This helps prevent unwanted stretching or pixelation.
• Resolution: Aim for a resolution above 150 dpi. The higher the resolution, the crisper the image. We'll check the resolution before printing.
• Multiple files: If your order includes multiple items, email artwork@marlerhaley.co.uk with your order number and a description of which files correspond to each product. Include quantities where necessary to avoid confusion.
