Custom printed teardrop banners for outdoor advertising, events and forecourts

Bring your branding outdoors with custom printed teardrop flags from Marler Haley. The curved teardrop silhouette stays taut in still air, reads clearly from a distance and gives you generous space for logos, offers and event messaging.

Available in four sizes from 2.0m to 4.3m, single or double-sided, and fully custom printed in the UK using dye-sublimation for vibrant, fade-resistant graphics. Teardrop flags suit forecourts, exhibitions, festivals, retail entrances, sporting events and roadside advertising.

Why Use Teardrop Flag Banners?

Teardrop flags are one of the most cost-effective ways to add height, brand visibility and footfall direction to any outdoor or indoor space. Unlike feather flags they hold their shape in still air, so your message reads cleanly even on a quiet day at the front of a shop or inside an exhibition hall. They pack down small, set up in minutes without tools, and reuse across events for years when stored correctly.

Most-used by:

  • Exhibitors and event teams marking their stand or directing footfall
  • Retail and shopfront displays announcing offers, sales and seasonal promotions
  • Forecourts and dealerships drawing attention from passing traffic
  • Sporting events, festivals and country shows branding routes and venues
  • Property developers, estate agents and pop-up sites flagging open days

Choose The Right Size

Marler Haley teardrop flags are available in five sizes. Heights below are total assembled (graphic + pole)

Size Assembled width Assembled height Recommended use Best for
Extra Small 580mm 1,880mm Indoor only Foyers, retail counters, tabletop-adjacent signage
Small 800mm 2,100mm Indoor / sheltered outdoor Exhibitions, conference foyers, retail entrances
Medium 900mm 2,800mm Indoor or outdoor Trade shows, shopfronts, market stalls
Large 1,100mm 3,500mm Outdoor recommended Forecourts, fairs, sporting events
Extra Large 1,200mm 4,600mm Outdoor only Roadside, festivals, motorsport

Single-Sided vs Double-Sided Teardrop Flags

Single-sided is standard. Your artwork prints on one panel of fabric; the reverse shows the same image, mirrored, with around 70% show-through. This is fine for logos, single icons and bold solid-colour designs.

Double-sided uses two printed panels stitched together with a block-out lining in the middle. Each side reads correctly on its own - no mirrored text, no bleed-through. This is the right choice if your design includes typography, web addresses, offer text or directional callouts that need to read both ways. Available on Extra Small, Small, Medium and Large; the Extra Large is single-sided only.

Anchoring Your Flag - Choosing A Base

Flag bases are sold separately so you can match the right anchor to your surface.

Pair your flag with one of these base types:

  • Cross base - hard floor, exhibition halls, paving
  • Water-fillable base - outdoor retail, semi-permanent placement
  • Ground spike - grass, soft ground, festivals and country events
  • Drive-on car foot - forecourts and dealerships, vehicle as counterweight
  • Concrete base - heavy-duty, semi-permanent outdoor display

Recommended bases for each flag size are listed on the individual product page.

Teardrop Flag vs Feather Flag - Which Should You Choose?

Both are advertising flags, but they behave differently. Use the comparison below as a quick guide; if you're choosing between several outdoor display options, the broader advertising flags hub covers all five shapes we stock.

Compare Teardrop flag Feather flag
Shape Curved, tensioned over a flexible pole - stays readable in still air Tapered top to bottom, hangs from a vertical pole - flutters in any breeze
Best wind performance Better - the curved silhouette stays taut and stable Good - but more flutter, can wrap around pole in low wind
Readability without wind Excellent (recommended for shopfronts and indoor use) Reduced - relies on movement to display fully
Visual style Bold, modern, retail-friendly Classic, dynamic, event-focused
Recommended for Forecourts, retail, exhibitions, indoor events Outdoor festivals, sporting events, branding perimeters

The Print Process - And What Makes The Colour Last

Every teardrop flag is dye-sublimation printed onto a knitted polyester flag fabric. Heat presses the dye directly into the fabric weave, which means the colour becomes part of the fibre rather than sitting on top of it. The result is high colour saturation, fade-resistance in UV, and a graphic you can wash repeatedly without cracking, peeling or transfer loss. Used and stored correctly, expect 12+ months of regular outdoor use before a replacement graphic is needed.

Care, Washing and Replacement Graphics

Wash flag graphics on a 30°C cycle without harsh detergent. Air dry fully before folding away. Store in the supplied carry bag in a dry environment. Avoid leaving flags up in sustained winds above 18 mph or in heavy snow - both add weight and strain that shorten the graphic's life.

When the design changes or the graphic finally retires, you don't need to replace the hardware. Order a replacement flag graphic for any of our flag systems and reuse the original pole and base.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes do teardrop flags come in?

Marler Haley teardrop flags come in five sizes:

  • Extra Small (1.8m) – indoor use only, ideal for retail counters, foyers and tabletop-adjacent signage.
  • Small (2.1m) – suitable for indoor or sheltered outdoor settings.
  • Medium (2.8m) – suitable for indoor or sheltered outdoor settings.
  • Large (3.5m) – designed for outdoor advertising.
  • Extra Large (4.6m) – designed for outdoor advertising.

Large and Extra Large flags are ideal for forecourts, festivals and roadside use.

What's the difference between single-sided and double-sided?

Single-sided flags are printed on one piece of fabric, with the design mirrored on the reverse and around 70% show-through.

Double-sided flags use two separately printed panels stitched around a block-out lining, so the design reads correctly from both sides.

Double-sided is recommended for designs with text, web addresses or directional messaging.

Can teardrop flags be used indoors?

Yes. The Small and Medium sizes are well suited to indoor use at exhibitions, foyers, retail spaces and conferences.

Pair them with a cross base or weighted base for stability. Large and Extra Large flags are generally too tall for indoor venues and are recommended for outdoor use only.

What wind speeds can they withstand?

When anchored with a recommended base, teardrop flags are rated for use in wind speeds up to Beaufort Scale 4 (around 18 mph / 29 km/h).

In stronger conditions, take the flag down to prevent damage to the pole and graphic, and to protect people nearby.

How do I anchor a teardrop flag outdoors?

Choose a base to suit your surface:

  • Cross bases and water-fillable bases for hard ground
  • Ground spikes for grass or soft ground
  • Drive-on car feet for forecourts, using a vehicle as a counterweight

Refer to the flag bases collection page for size compatibility with each option.

How fast is delivery?

Standard production offers a fast turnaround once artwork is approved, with courier despatch to UK mainland addresses.

If you need your order sooner for an event, call 0800 072 7742 to confirm the quickest available timeline.

How do I supply artwork?

Upload your print-ready artwork after placing your order using our supplied templates to ensure the visible area, bleed and pole pocket are positioned correctly.

Every order includes a free artwork check. If needed, our in-house graphics team can create your design for you—see our graphics services.

How do I clean and care for a teardrop flag?

Wash on a 30°C cool cycle without harsh detergents, then air dry fully before folding away.

Dye-sublimation print will not crack, peel or fade with normal washing. Store the flag in its supplied carry bag in a dry environment to extend its lifespan.

Teardrop flag vs feather flag - which is better?

Teardrop flags are tensioned and curved, so they remain readable even in still air—making them ideal for shopfronts, forecourts and indoor exhibitions.

Feather flags flutter in the breeze, creating a more dynamic look that suits outdoor festivals and sporting events.

Choose a teardrop flag when readability matters more than movement.
